2021 Cyclocross Skills - Level 1

Thursday Evenings 5:30 pm - 6:45 pm, August 12 - September 9 

AND Zoom Friday August 27 at 7:00 pm (or recorded)

Friday, September 10 is make-up day in the event of severe weather cancellation.

LOCATION: At an unnamed MPLS City Park located intersection of Cedar and E. Minnehaha Parkway (1898-1800 E 49th St). Park is west side of Cedar and on Minnehaha Creek. Street parking on E 49th St. and in neighborhood.

Who is this for?

  • Beginner or first-time "cyclocrossers"

  • Intermediate riders seeking to review the fundamentals 

The goal of this clinic is to take you from cyclocross beginner to race-ready. 

Cyclocross, gravel, and MTB bikes welcome. You should have MTB pedals and shoes or flat pedals.

Goals/Objectives

  • Cyclocross basics: dismount, carry, barriers, remount, corners, starts

  • Comfort/techniques for various surfaces: sand, off-cambers, steep ups/downs

  • Equipment: How to select tires/pressure, bike maintenance, shoes/spikes for CX

  • Think like a "crosser:" when to run vs. ride, line choice, attacking and blocking

During Zoom Session, we will

  • Discuss cyclocross bike tech, tire selection, and tire pressure selection.

  • Consider cyclocross tactics. How does the discipline differ from road and MTB?

  • Review technique points using visuals of World Cup athletes. 

  • Discuss race day: preride strategy, warmup protocols, fueling suggestions, etc.  

Clinic Cost: $120 for full clinic

NEW THIS YEAR: Triple C Clinics are no longer permitted via USA Cycling. You do NOT need a USA Cycling license to participate.

Full clinic is limited to 10 riders in order to provide each athlete with sufficient attention and support to encourage growth.

Instructor Corey Coogan Cisek has competed in cyclocross since 2007. Cisek is a 2-time National Champion in the Master's Category and has raced cyclocross professionally in Belgium, including representing the U.S. in over a dozen World Cups. Cisek is a USAC Cycling Level 2 Certified Coach with 10 years experience coaching endurance sports.
